Council District 4 Updates

Councilman Ron Brinson

May 25, 2020

Resurfacing of Dorchester Road…. between Club Course/Netherby and Wescott Boulevard will soon begin. S.C. Department of Transportation planners confirmed that this contract has been awarded and the work is imminent. Club Course/Netherby – Dorchester intersection work is nearing completion. The city has formally requested protected left turn lanes. SCDOT planners agreed to “consider” this request.

The Aquatic Center is essentially complete and ready for operations. The opening and initial format for public uses will largely be defined by regulations and best practices as we deal with the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic. I will keep everyone posted and include membership information and activities’ schedules in this newsletter.

Our City’s Parks…have reopened, and that includes the extremely popular dog park at Wescott Park – and the spacious Riverfront Park on the Cooper River. Face masks, social distancing and common sense are advised – and appreciated.

Team sports remain suspended and we are still working through Summer Camp possibilities.

Yes, the early absentee voting precinct at Wescott Park again will be available next week in advance of the June 9 primary elections. These nomination primaries include statewide offices such as U.S. Senate and House of Representatives seats, and local and regional positions – S.C. House of Representatives and Senate seats, Dorchester County Council district seats and county sheriff offices in both Dorchester and Charleston Counties.
North Charleston residents in Dorchester County can vote “In-Person Absentee” at the Wescott Park Community Center (9006 Dorchester Road) beginning Monday, June 1 to Friday, June 5.  The precinct each day will open at 8:30 AM and close at 5:00 PM.

In-Person Absentee precinct for Dorchester County voters also will operate on the same schedule at the Rollins Edwards Community Center, 301 N. Hickory St. in Summerville.

And you can vote “Absentee” by mail, too, but you should hurry.
Request a mail-in “absentee” ballot in several ways:

In Dorchester County,

In Charleston County,
Request absentee ballots via fax at (843)974-6419 or mail to P.O. Box 71419, North Charleston SC 29415. or online at www.scvotes.org

And “Early Absentee Voting” precinct already is underway for Charleston County voters at Election Commission offices (4367 Headquarters Rd., just off Leeds Avenue/Dorchester Road.
(843)744-8683), and will continue weekdays through Friday, June 5.

Mail-in absentee ballots must be received in either county by 2 p.m. Friday, June 5.

The S.C. Election Commission operates an informative “Sample Ballot” link. Go to https://www.scvotes.org/      scroll to the sample ballot requests, enter your voter registration name, etc… ballots for both Democratic and Republican primaries are displayed.
