Councilman Ron Brinson December 18, 2022 Happy Holidays — may these special days be a period of family enjoyment. Be Safe!! Heartiest congratulations to District 4 resident Kellie Bates on her election to the Dorchester District 2 School Board. Kellie is actively involved in her children’s education at DD2 schools. School safety, discipline and board transparency top her list of priorities. She is the first North Charleston resident to serve on the DD2 Board — and we look forward to working closely with her. The Christmas week schedule for trash and recycling pickups will not change for Dorchester County city residents. The old health club – now a derelict eyesore of a building on Dorchester Road – will soon become a car wash project. Phase Two of the Cedar Grove Shopping Center features new stores, restaurants and a bank: European Wax, Fifth Third Bank and Buffalo Wild Wings, First Watch, and Chicken Salad Chick. And the developers have signaled that additional announcements should be forthcoming in early 2023. This shopping complex has become very popular. It has progressed despite so many delays related to pandemic issues, such as supply chain interruptions. Residents should know that the developers paid for the pedestrian crosswalk facilities at Dorchester Road and Trump Street. (SCDOT continues to tweak the signaling sequencing.) And residents should know that the property owners in 2012 joined our city in financing the signal light at this intersection – 10 years before the center was opened. Palmetto Commerce Parkway developments continue….Millions of square footage of commercial warehousing and distribution center structures have been added in recent years and more is planned. A fuel station/convenience store will soon be constructed at the PCP – Weber intersection, and there should be some lane control updates there. A traffic signal will soon be in place at Patriot and Weber. One project awaiting final permit approval is a 1.325 million square foot facility at the “Collins Road” property. The city opposed this project because of drainage concerns. Then, developers met with Pepperhill residents and the Coosaw Creek POA drainage committee. The meetings led to the project being amended; in fact, the Coosaw Creek team helped the developers identify a major problem with the Collins Road damming effect, a frequent concern along the McChune Branch run-off, especially in heavy-rain events. The developers / property owners responded immediately. and the issue was resolved. Kudos to them – and to the Coosaw Creek team for working together and constructively. The Aquatic Center is a popular and busy facility. More than 400 residents have enrolled in either individual or family memberships. 15 Dorchester District 2 elementary schools are involved in student swimming lessons. The Center just hosted several major swim meets, including the Palmetto Masters and largest swim meet yet, with 711 athletes – S.C. Swimming Committee’s “Blizzard Blast.” Dorchester County’s duel-use library construction should pickup pace in early 2023 as supply chain delays ease. The property across Patriot Boulevard now belongs to the city and site planning for a public park should gain traction, also in in early 2023. City residents are encouraged to check in regularly at www.northcharleston.org for information on all city activities and to submit service requests. Please share this little newsletter with your neighbors. Distribution is greatly dependent on HOA property managers’ blasts. Please encourage yours to do so. I’ll be glad to add any District 4 resident to the direct distribution list. Just send me a note at rbrin@aol.com Happy Holidays Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a Prosperous and Thoroughly Happy 2023! |
