North Charleston District 4 Updates-November 2017

DeHaven Fine home specialists

Projects Abound – That’s a Trident Health systems facility being developed next to the Chick Fil A on Dorchester Road…..that’s another large – 262,000 square foot — commercial building between the Joseph Pye School and Boeing’s interior plant on Patriot Boulevard. I’ve asked the Krispy Kreme project managers for an update on that slow-moving facility on Ladson Road at Palmetto Commerce. The Planned Development District at the entrance to Whitehall portends an assisted living facility and commercial buildings at the front of the property. The site is in early stages of some intended development consistent with the PDD. I’ll keep you posted. Also, we see work on the Weber Boulevard link between Palmetto Commerce Parkway and Patriot Boulevard. This is not the final connection project. Developers have until 2020 to get that done, but Mayor Summey and I are working to accelerate the pace.

Truck Traffic – Large commercial trucks are not permitted to pass through the Wescott neighborhoods on Patriot Boulevard or Wescott Boulevard.  As for that new building between the Pye School and Boeing Interiors, large truck traffic will be accessing the site to and from  Palmetto Commerce Parkway and truck traffic hours will be restricted to after 9 a.m.

Surveying Scam – Counties are working to update flood plain data which provide the guidelines for flood insurance. This is a work in progress, but reportedly scammers are now busy trying to convince some homeowners that they are required to get their properties re-surveyed. There are no such mandates and if you are contacted by anyone proposing such surveys, please contact me at this e mail address. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is interested in this criminal activity and so are North Charleston police.

The Aquatics center project will be out for bids in early January. Assuming the price is right, groundbreaking would be in the first quarter of 2018. Construction would last about 18 months, suggesting an opening of this outstanding new facility in late 2019. This is a cooperative planning and design project involving our city and Dorchester District 2 School Board.
